This Crown Belongs to Us
JOABG is proud to share the compelling "This Crown Belongs To Us" art fiber installation, on display at Atlanta Contemporary Art Center . This new piece is made of 15 foot long chunky yarn and wooden bangles used for beads . https://atlantacontemporary.org/exhibits/journey-of-a-black-girl
This on going project stands as a significant and multifaceted initiative. Its importance stems from its direct response to the critical need for positive, affirming, and empowering spaces tailored specifically for Black girls and women especially with our hair practices. Black women and girls frequently encounter unique challenges, persistent stereotypes, and pervasive underrepresentation. Having this work located in the secret garden of Atlanta Contemporary emerges as a vital and powerful narrative actively working to reshape perceptions and foster a sense of belonging and worth.
The project's importance offers a dedicated platform for celebration and affirmation. This is not only as art to experience but a vibrant space designed to honor and uplift the multifaceted journey, inherent resilience, boundless creativity, and undeniable strength of Black girls and women. Such dedicated celebration is absolutely essential for cultivating higher self-esteem, solidifying a positive identity, and nurturing a sense of belonging within a community that truly understands and cherishes them.
